F.A.Q.

Frequently Asked Questions.

Q: My coils are frozen what do I do? A: Turn the Thermostat to the off position to start the defrost process. If you have a gas heater in a closet, that's all you'll want to do. For those of you with Electric Heat, you may be able to speed up the defrost process by turning the fan switch from the auto to the on position. This is only recommended for those electric units with it's coils located under the blower. If you're not sure where your coils are located, it's best to keep the unit off. If your Unit is in an attic in the "horizontal" position, Gas or Electric, The fan may be used to speed up the defrost process. When the Unit is defrosted call us for service. Q: What causes the Coils to freeze? A: There are several reasons a coil can freeze. The most common reasons are: Low on refrigerant "Freon", Dirty Coils, Burnt or Failing Blower Motor, etc... A qualified service tech will be able to pinpoint the problem and take steps to correct it.  Q: My Indoor unit is running but my outdoor unit isn't. What should I do? A: There are many reasons for this to occur. The most common is a clogged drain line. Many units employ the use of a safety device called a float switch. The float switch can be located in a variety of places. Some are mounted in pans and some are "in-line". Regardless of location they all do the same thing, keep the outdoor unit from coming on to prevent the production of condensation (water). First Turn the Thermostat to the off position. Then proceed to determine if the float switch has been "tripped". If it has, then empty the water from the pan or pipe that the float switch is in (usually the secondary drain line). After this has been accomplished, proceed with the un-clogging of the main drain line. The use of a water hose or air compressor may be needed (some drain lines may require cutting). After the clog is gone and the pipes are back in working order, the thermostat can be turned back to the cooling position and set to the desired temperature. If the outdoor unit still doesn't work or if the float switch wasn't tripped, there may be a more serious problem. A qualified service tech. should be called to service the unit.  Q: My Outdoor unit is running but my indoor unit isn't. What should I do? A: Turn the Thermostat to the off position. If the outdoor unit continues to run, disconnect power to unit and call a qualified service tech.  Q: I'm going on summer vacation. What do you recommend? A: Before going on vacation we recommend that a full inspection be performed to identify any potential problems, and that the thermostat be set to reasonable temperature while you are away. 85 in summer and 60 in winter respectively. Q: How can I tell the size of my unit, and is it big enough for my home? A: If you can provide us with the Unit Brand Name, Model, and Serial Number, We'll be able to tell you what size it is. In order to tell you if a unit is sized right for your home or office we will need the living area Square footage to help us to determine what size unit the building needs.
